Visit to Kisiju Site - September 2016
The iGRID Team visited one of the potential sites in Kisiju Pwani, where the prototype micro grid will be implemented. The site is located in a small village along the Indian Ocean, 50 km from Mkuranga District Headquarters, in Pwani region. In the village, a small photovoltaic based micro grid has been setup. The grid is used to power about 68 residences, public stree lights, and a few local businesses. Despite being operational, the grid suffers from inefficiencies and operational issues. There is an opportunity to use smart grid technologies to improve the operation of the grid, making it autonomous and smart.
